Musical Theatre

[Forthcoming Musical Theatre Workshops]

As a genre Musical Theatre covers the operettas of Gilbert and Sullivan, through the golden age of Broadway shows by the likes of Gershwin and Cole Porter, to contemporary musicals including composers such as Andrew Lloyd-Webber, Frank Wildhorn and Stephen Schwartz. In recent years the genre has expanded to include a large number of “jukebox musicals” such as We Will Rock You and Mamma Mia. As a result, the successful Musical Theatre performer is required to master a wide range of vocal techniques and qualities from the classical to rock and belting.

We have encountered singers who have wonderful natural voices but have struggled to sustain a role through a show. This is often due to a lack of understanding of the working of the voice and deficiencies in basic vocal technique. Even a short course of lessons can alleviate these problems and provide the singer with a solid platform from which they can perform to the best of their ability and enjoy doing so.

We are also delighted to welcome beginners who fancy having a go at singing in this style. If you wonder how much you can do with your voice but feel nervous about having lessons, we can provide a friendly and encouraging environment in which you can try it out.

Our Experienced Staff

Our associate staff Robert Webb and Peter Taylor are both experienced teachers in this genre having taught students preparing for the Trinity College Diploma in Professional Musical Theatre – which, for some, has led to a career in the West End and has seen many other students gaining employment as performers in touring shows and on cruise ships.

Both Peter and Robert have an extensive knowledge of the repertoire and the skills required to perform it effectively. They can provide lessons in basic technique, guidance in interpretation and performance, or simply rehearsal accompaniment.
